Returning to the beautiful location of St Mary's Church, Paddington Green, on
February 26th 2005, we will perform our first concert given over to a single
composer, Tomás Luis de Victoria. His Requiem, a magnificent
6-part setting dedicated to the Empress Maria, the anniversary of whose death
falls on the day of the concert, is set alongside his earlier settings of the
Tenebrae Responsories, from a series of motets intended for performance
in Holy Week.
In May 2005, our concert series Bach
in Context begins with Bach in history, placing
two of the master's choral motets alongside works by two of his most important
influences, Buxtehude and Frescobaldi. This is our first concert series, extending
over the following two years with three more concerts: Bach in revival,
Bach in transformation and, in June 2007, a performance of the B
Minor Mass, Bach in completion. This major concert series has been
made possible by the generous sponsorship of the Corporation of London.
Our other performance plans include an evening of summer jazz, and a
semi-staged dramatic Baroque entertainment. Why not join our
mailing list and be the first to hear full details!
